Orthodontics-Correction of Crooked and Crowded Teeth

Orthodontic treatments provide the prevention and treatment of aesthetic and functional disorders related to the tooth-maxillofacial region, allowing both an aesthetic smile and appropriate chewing and speaking functions to be obtained. The age of starting orthodontic treatment varies from person to person.

In some patients, it is necessary to start treatment at an early age in order to break bad habits such as thumb sucking, expand the jaw, correct crossbites, and thus prevent future skeletal problems, while in some patients, permanent teeth should be completed.

Therefore, every child needs to be followed up by a pediatric dentist after their baby teeth begin to erupt.

Treatments Applied in Our Orthodontic Clinic

Treatments with Mobile Devices

It is the treatment applied with removable devices in primary or mixed dentition. It is necessary to use it continuously, day and night, except for the feeding process. Due to the extension of the appliance to the palate, it makes it difficult to speak in the first week, but over time the child gets used to it completely. Habits such as thumb sucking, lip biting, baby swallowing cause skeletal disorders in the jaw structure that cannot be corrected in the future. In such habits, early treatment is sometimes sufficient to solve the problem alone.

Such devices prevent these habits, make the child forget and normalize growth and development. Another mobile device is chin expansion appliances. Adenoid in the nasal passage, etc. If there is obstruction due to obstruction, the child starts to sleep with his mouth open, in this case, the upper jaw becomes narrow and problems such as open bite and chin back may develop.

Patients are evaluated together with otolaryngologists and an expansion device is applied for the narrowed maxilla. Sometimes, due to early milk tooth extraction, permanent teeth shift towards the space from where they should be. In this case, it is necessary to move the permanent teeth to where they should be and make room for the teeth that will come from below.

Another situation where mobile devices are used is cross appliances. Especially in the upper ten teeth, the teeth sometimes erupt from behind, and as they hit the lower ten teeth during chewing, the child moves the jaw forward and causes skeletal anteriority over time. In this case, the teeth are brought to their required positions with a movable device.

Treatment with Transparent Plates in Children ( Invisalign First)

In this system developed with digital technology, the child’s teeth are scanned with a three-dimensional scanner and a treatment plan is developed digitally.

Since the applied devices do not cover the palate, they only cover the teeth, they are much more comfortable and aesthetic appliances that do not force speaking or swallowing. Compared to mobile devices, it provides the solution of many problems in the same treatment.

Functional Treatments & Invisalign Teen MA

They are treatments to stimulate growth or sometimes to slow down growth in cases where chin development is insufficient. Depending on the skeletal disorder, it is applied with oral dental devices or a device involving the double jaw.

These appliances should be used regularly every day and at least 16 hours a day. If chin enlargement is planned with transparent plates, wings are added to the transparent plates, thus chin growth is stimulated with much more comfortable appliances.

The ease of use of clear aligners (Invisalign MA) facilitates patient compliance, thus increasing treatment success.

Fixed Orthodontic Treatment

In these treatments, brackets are attached to the teeth and the crowding is corrected with memory wires passing through their sockets. To make room for the teeth, it may be necessary to enlarge the jaw, reduce the teeth or file between the teeth.

Anchor screws, which can be applied very easily with local anesthesia, are sometimes used to get support from the bone. If chin enlargement is desired during fixed treatment, it may be necessary to use additional functional devices.

Brackets can be metal or tooth-colored ceramic. Each session can be different by attaching colored elastics around the brackets. Oral care is very important as brackets and wires increase food retention.

During the treatment, around the brackets should be cleaned in detail. In these treatments, due to the pressure of the wires, there is both pain in the teeth and irritation in the soft tissues in the first week. These problems gradually decrease and pass in 1 week to a large extent.

Treatment with clear aligners – Invisalign

In these treatments, the mouth is scanned with three-dimensional scanners and plaques are produced by arranging the teeth with virtual intelligence. By applying these plates gradually, crowding is corrected. In these treatments, very small tooth-colored attachments are applied on the teeth and the plates are supported by these attachments and apply force to the teeth.

Even if ceramic brackets are used in fixed bracket treatments, the appearance is high, they cause food retention, irritate soft tissues, and restrict nutrition. Transparent plaques are much less visible, they do not disturb the soft tissues, they can be removed and all kinds of hard foods can be consumed.

However, they are treatments that require discipline, they should be removed at every meal and put back after feeding, and should be used for at least 20 hours every day and every day during the treatment.

Orthognathic Surgery Preparation

In skeletal problems that cannot be treated, the jaw positions are changed surgically under general anesthesia after waiting for the end of puberty.

In these treatments, tooth positions and closure are prepared for the operation with preoperative orthodontic treatment and a normal closure is obtained after the operation. These treatments can be done with fixed brackets or with the invisalign clear plate system.

In these operations, the patient may need to be hospitalized for 2-3 days after the procedure, and feeding becomes difficult in the short term after the operation.

Maintaining Impacted Teeth

Teeth sometimes remain impacted, and in these cases, the first goal should be to maintain that tooth. In these cases, first of all, the pain and sustainability of the tooth inside is evaluated with tomography, and formations that prevent it from erupting are checked.

Then, a wire is attached to the impacted tooth under local anesthesia and by applying force from this wire, the impacted tooth is maintained.

In some cases, it may be necessary to get support from screws to be applied to the bone.

Jaw joint disorder treatments Joint disorders have many causes, one of which is early contact.

If the factor is early contact, it is necessary to first detect these contacts and then remove them.

To detect early contact, first a joint plate is made, and after the muscles are relaxed, the teeth causing early contact are either eroded or adjusted with orthodontic treatment.
